Kat Blaque is an Animator, Illustrator, and Youtube host from Southern California who has been openly blogging about her life for the past 10+ years on Youtube. Experiencing the ups and downs of New Media, she has ultimately concluded that Social Media is a powerful force for change and awareness. She currently uses her platforms on YouTube (127k subscribers), Facebook (199k with an average weekly reach of 4,000,000 people) to speak about the topics she’s passionate about as well as spread information, and cultivate conversations that encourage education across intersections. She playfully refers to herself as “inter sectionality salad” as she embodies various identities and experiences.
Kat talks about what authenticity means to her, and how she embodies this through her social media platforms. Kat was able to be herself while also playing new, fictional versions of herself online, which lead her to a deeper understanding of her own identity. As she pursued her passion for animation arts at Caltech, Kat began accepting her gender and sexuality. She spoke about the struggles she has faced as a transgender woman and how she was able to overcome them. Kat also shared her short film called “Sometimes You’re a Caterpillar,”, which was inspired by her own life. She encourages transgender people, and all people in general, to be courageous and confident in yourself.
