During this Numen Lumen lecture for Hispanic Heritage Month, Elon student Sary Martinez shares her story of how change and resilience is linked to living a legacy. Sary explains the impact education has had on her life and the immense role education plays in shaping legacy. Community has also played a key role in shaping Sary’s heritage and resilience, sharing her experience growing up in a hispanic/latino community.
Sary Martinez is a Public Health major with a Business Administration minor. Originally from Honduras, Sary arrived to the US at the age of 11. Sary is passionate about working with individuals and communities by using her passion in Health & Wellness Promotion as well as the incorporation of business models to the field of health. To Sary Martinez, being a Latina woman in the US means having the work ethic of Sonia Sotomayor, passion of Frida Kahlo, and determination of Salma Hayek.
